The Last of Us release date gets closer with first TV commercial

The Last of Us, Naughty Dog’s forthcoming PS3-exclusive title, is getting closer to its much anticipated release date with its first TV commercial this weekend. What’s more, the commercial will air during the season finale of AMC’s The Walking Dead.

As AMC brings season 3 of its hugely popular zombie show based on Robert Kirkman’s comic book series of the same name to a close tomorrow, Sunday, The Last of Us will use this high profile and very relevant TV ad slot to launch the PS3-exclusive title to a wider audience.

The Last of Us will be released on June 14, less than three months away. Like The Walking Dead, it depicts the personal challenges and everyday struggles that the characters must endure to stay alive in a post-apocalyptic world. In Naughty Dog’s case, the protagonists are Joel and Ellie.

Here’s what Naughty Dog’s creative director Neil Druckmann had to say,

“The team is working extremely hard on putting the finishing touches on the game. It’s exciting to see all the different aspects of the game finally come together into the vision we’ve had in mind all along. Joel and Ellie’s journey is turning out to be something truly special that we can’t wait to share with our fans.”

The Last of Us will easily become one of the biggest game titles of 2013. Fans of the as of yet unreleased game hope that this Sunday’s commercial is the beginning of a “marketing blitz by Sony for this game, something similar to what MS [Microsoft] does for Halo”.

Fans of The Walking Dead will almost certainly become fans of The Last of Us.
