Some of the world’s largest technology companies will be attending Career Zoo (@CareerZoo1 | Facebook), a two day jobs and skills event, looking for highly skilled professionals and graduates.
A wide range of large and small companies will be attending the event in Dublin’s Mansion House, including international technology players such as Amazon; EA Games’ Bioware, which opened new offices in Ireland before Christmas; cloud computing services provider, EMC Ireland; Salesforce.com; PayPal; and Ericsson.
The organisers report that the event will have 2,500 job vacancies on offer from leading companies, although competition for these will be tight; over 7,000 people attended the last event in September.
According to Career Zoo’s director, Brian Ó hOisín, the event this year will look at how graduates and professionals can develop transferrable skills to allow for greater job mobility. The event will also promote conversion courses which allow individuals to update their skill sets or gain new ones. Skillsnet, who provide such courses, says that in six months individuals can retrain for vastly different careers in a number of industries.
The Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton, T.D. stressed the importance of up-skilling to Ireland’s slowly recovering economy, “If we are to get out of this crisis, we must not only be highly ambitious about the number of jobs we can create in Ireland, but also ensure that we have skilled candidates available to fill the positions that already exist.
February’s event will also provide practical advice to entrepreneurs and start-ups. These entrepreneurs will be able to take part in one-to-one consultations with Dublin City Enterprise Board.
Career Zoo takes place as a large number of web technology companies based in Ireland are looking for staff. Currently Twitter, Facebook, Google, EA/Bioware and Zynga have positions available in the country.
Career Zoo is free and takes place on February 11 and 12 in Dublin’s Mansion House. Attendees can register on the Careers Zoo website
